The Waikato region of New Zealand is on the western side of the North Island, South of Auckland’s Bombay Hills. Home to nearly 360,000 people this diverse region includes a broad stretch of coastline and rolling farm lands.

The Waikato River is the longest in New Zealand and provides much of the life-force to this thriving farming region, especially vast agricultural landscapes, and generates a large quantity of New Zealand’s clean, green energy through hydro power.

The main centre in the region is Hamilton, which is New Zealand’s fourth largest metropolitan area. Centrally located, approximately 90 minutes from Auckland, Tauranga and Rotorua. Hamilton has grown to become a diverse city with a variety of industries. The Waikato River runs through Hamilton that is abundant in cafes and restaurants. Approximately 25,000 students attend the University of Waikato and the Waikato Institute of technology. Scientific research undertaken at the Ruakura Research Centre helps secure the countries agricultural edge.

International, National and Local level spectator sports are very popular in Hamilton, including Rugby Union at Waikato Stadium, Cricket a Seddon Park, Netball at Mystery Creek, Hockey at Hamilton Lake Domain, Rowing on Waikato River, Polo at Kihikihi and the new Hamilton 400 V8 street race, all widely attended.
